1. About air cargo
Air cargo packaging
In order to be able to transport the customer's goods from the beginning of the carrier to the destination safely and without damage, we also need our customers to properly package their goods.
In order to transport air cargo safely, quickly and reliably, we have developed ANA cargo packaging guidelines
ANA Cargo is committed to improving the quality of transportation. In order to ensure the safety of transportation, please be sure to understand the necessary packaging requirements and cooperate with the use of packaging that can meet the air transportation conditions.
About the packaging responsibility of air cargo
There are three kinds of safety in air transportation, namely: "aircraft safety", "staff safety" and "cargo safety" In order to protect this kind of safety, packaging plays a very important role.
According to IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations, “the owner of the cargo is responsible for implementing packaging that can be transported safely under normal operating conditions, and the strength of the packaging must be able to withstand all the conditions that occur during regular transportation.” (Tact rulebook 2.3 .11, 232.1.d)
For improperly packaged goods, it may be required to repackage. If the goods are damaged due to improper packaging, it is an exemption matter according to the terms of the carrier, and damage compensation may not be paid.
The impact of improper air transport packaging
① The collapse of the cargo or the leakage of the contents may damage other cargo and the aircraft. In this case, the owner may be required to compensate for the damage caused by other goods and the estimated repair and clean-up costs.
②Boarding operations such as boarding and boxing take a certain amount of time, which may affect whether the aircraft can take off on time.
③If the cargo cannot be plated efficiently, such as stacking in a ULD, the space will not be fully utilized. As a result, the amount of cargo that can be loaded on the entire aircraft is reduced, and the cargo may not be able to be loaded on the scheduled flight, which has become the reason for the increase in transportation costs.
2·Air cargo process
Warehousing
In addition to BUC and other whole-board and full-containment goods, it is necessary to confirm whether the goods are Ready for Carriage and other tasks during the collection and transportation process.
① When using a forklift to unload the cargo from the truck's container, due to the height difference, improper loading method may make the loading and unloading operation difficult, and there is a risk of damaging the cargo.
②In order to confirm the outer packaging and labels of the goods, bulk goods that cannot be visually confirmed are piled up on the pallet, which will increase the possibility of manual loading and unloading.
③When loading and unloading with a forklift, a fork insertion port is required.
Boxing
In order to effectively use the cargo space of the aircraft, the cargo entrusted by the customer may be loaded on the aircraft crates together with the cargo of other customers.
① To carry heavy goods, forklift trucks are required for boarding and packing operations. When loading and unloading, a fork insertion port is required.
②Bulk cargo needs to be assembled manually.
③When assembling goods with plates, in order to secure the goods, the mesh bag needs to be tightened. Cartons with insufficient strength may sometimes squash the corners or deform the carton.
Aircraft side transportation
Transport the ULD to the vicinity of the aircraft by the ULD tractor
① Ditches, paving joints, steps, etc. around the aircraft apron will have a certain degree of impact on the cargo during transportation.
In-flight
Use special vehicles (elevating platform vehicles, bulk transfer vehicles, etc.) to install the container into the aircraft.
The bulk cargo carried in the bulk compartment needs to be transported to the compartment by the bulk compartment transfer vehicle, and then manually loaded
① Lift and load the container with cargo
②When the cargo is loaded in the bulk compartment of a passenger aircraft together with parcels and passenger checked baggage, it is difficult to completely fix it, and there is a possibility of displacement depending on the flight status.
③During the flight, the shaking and tilting of the aircraft will cause a certain load on the cargo.

3. Precautions about carton packaging
In order to make full use of the limited loading space, please take into account the stacking of goods, please use flat packaging when warehousing, and ensure that the top of the goods has sufficient support strength.
[When a single carton is in storage]
appropriate
①The cardboard shell has no scratches and is in a sealed state with no gaps.
inappropriate
②The outer packaging that has been damp, softened or reused, has the risk of dents, collapses or breakage.
inappropriate
③If there is a gap between the outer packaging and the contents, it may cause dents or collapse.
[When a single carton is more than 20kg]
※It is recommended to use a pallet (packing with cushion material)
inappropriate
① When the cartons are stacked on the mat, stacking in the same direction, or stacking irregularly protruding from the edge of the pallet, will increase the burden on the lower part, which may cause the cargo to dent, collapse and cause the cargo to collapse.
Clothes
inappropriate
②If the goods and pallets are packaged in a carton, the forks of the forklift will directly touch the goods and there is a risk that the bottom surface of the goods will be sunken or damaged.
In addition, paper trays will absorb moisture, and there is a risk of weakening their strength.
appropriate
④When stacking cartons on a pallet, if the straps are fixed in only one direction, there is a risk of loosening and collapse, so please bundle them in cross directions.
inappropriate
(⑤) When stacking cartons on a pallet, if the straps are only fixed in one direction, there is a risk of loosening and collapse, so please bundle them in cross directions.
inappropriate
⑥If the top of the cargo is uneven or protruding, there may be a risk of damage and will affect the full use of space.
4. Precautions for wooden box, wooden frame, steel packaging
Although wooden boxes and wooden frames are stronger than cartons, there may be a risk of cracking or damage if the package is not sealed or the contents are not fixed.
In order to make full use of the limited loading space, please consider the stacking of the goods. Please use flat packaging when entering the warehouse to ensure that the goods are in a completely closed state and have sufficient support strength on the top.
※For some goods such as glass products, liquefied gas cylinders, auto parts, etc., through the use of sufficient cushioning materials or pallets with a certain strength, wooden frames, wooden boxes, wooden pallets (pallet mat materials for loading large/heavy goods), etc. Special packaging for transportation.
When the packaging is not suitable for air transportation, the following problems will occur.
inappropriate
①If the outer packaging is cracked, the goods are broken, the nails are protruding or the joints of the goods fall off, other goods may be damaged.
inappropriate
②If the fragile cargo does not use enough cushioning materials, it may be damaged during loading and unloading and air transportation.
inappropriate
③The top and sides of the outer packaging of the goods must be firmly fixed. Otherwise, it may damage the goods themselves or other goods.
inappropriate
④ If the top of the cargo is uneven or has protrusions, it may cause damage to other cargo, or the space may not be fully utilized due to difficulty in boarding with other cargo.
Please inform us when booking this kind of cargo space.
inappropriate
⑤If the height of the wood clearance is not enough (<10cm) and the fork is not easy to enter, it may cause the goods to tip over or be damaged.
5. Other types of packaging
1 Precautions about tire transportation
Not recommended example
Regarding the transportation of automobile and other vehicle tires, please be sure to pack it in a reinforced carton, or wrap it with shrink tape and then fix it on a standard pallet with metal or strong plastic straps.
※If the weight is portable and the number is limited, there is no problem even if you do not use cushion materials.
When the packaging is not suitable for air transportation, the following problems will occur.
①If the tires are not fixed firmly, other goods may be damaged during transportation.
②If the top of the cargo is uneven or has protrusions, it may cause damage to other cargo, or the loading space of the tire cargo itself cannot be guaranteed, and it may not be possible to carry it on the scheduled flight.

②If the top of the cargo is uneven or has protrusions, it may cause damage to other cargo, or the loading space cannot be guaranteed, and it may not be possible to carry it on the scheduled flight.
③If the straps are only tied in one direction, the goods cannot be sufficiently secured, and the goods may shift and fall over during transportation.
Notes on the packaging of fiber products:
Not recommended example
Carpets or cloths and other roll-shaped fiber goods, after being staggered and stacked on the mat, must be shrink-wrapped and fastened firmly with straps. In addition, please put the label in a position that can be checked visually even in the stacked state.
※When the mat material used has a wide plank space, the rod-shaped goods may be caught between the planks and bend. Please be careful. (Please use a mat with smaller intervals between the boards, or spread thick cardboard on the mat.)
When the packaging is not suitable for air transportation, the following problems will occur
① When the mat material used has a wide spacing between the planks, the rod-shaped cargo may be caught between the planks or deformed.
During forklift loading and unloading operations, the goods may be broken by the forks.
②If the top of the cargo is uneven or has protrusions, it may cause damage to other cargo, or the loading space of the fiber cargo itself cannot be guaranteed, and it may not be possible to carry it on the scheduled flight.
Precautions for transporting cement bags:
Not recommended example
The size of the bag (cement, etc.) must be the size of the cushion material, and a piece of plastic film should be laid on the cushion material, and the goods should be strapped.
When the packaging is not suitable for air transportation, the following problems will occur
① When the mat material used has a wide spacing between the planks, the bagged goods may be caught between the planks. During forklift loading and unloading operations, the goods may be broken by the forks.
②If the top of the cargo is uneven or has protrusions, it may cause damage to other cargo, or the loading space of the bagged cargo itself cannot be guaranteed, and it may not be possible to carry it on the scheduled flight.
Notes on cable transportation
Not recommended example
Because the cable is not suitable for single-room transportation, please be sure to install it on the cushion material, and secure the goods with straps (multi-directional) after shrink packaging.
When the packaging is not suitable for air transportation, the following problems will occur
①If the outer packaging is cracked, the goods are broken, the nails are protruding or the joints of the goods fall off, other goods may be damaged.
